    1929 D penny

I was raking up some pine needles in my yard the other day. I raked them into a pile on a concrete walkway. As I was picking it up putting it in a yard waste bin I saw on old looking penny. I picked it up and noticed it was an old wheat back penny. I turned it over and saw that it was a 1929 D penny.

I immediately started to wonder about the history of this penny. Who dropped it and how long ago.

I did check the value of this penny and in the condition it’s in, it’s only worth a few dollars. Then later that day I went to purchase a bottle of wine at a local mom and pop store. I got a 1958 penny in change.

Some of those old wheat backed pennies are worth thousands of dollars... Now that pennies are no longer being minted, those prices will only go up for other pennies.

Its kind of interesting that you found it when raking up pine needles.. Probably hasnt been done in a very long time....

I have hundreds of old wheat back pennies. My mother got me started collecting pennies when I was a little boy. I used to get a big bag of pennies from my bank and go through them.

I also have about 200 steel WWII era pennies. None of which are the date which makes them extremely valuable.

Pennies prior to 1982 were still copper (95%) and are worth saving for the value of the metal.

Yeah, I have hundreds of wheats backed pennies and hundreds more in my family's coin collections from 1909 vdb to 1959. Still hoping I get lucky to get a 1922 penny.....

It appears I will have to go back to cash purchases to get a few more of these old pennies and nickels into my large collections.

Mint marks suck... but they can mean the diffrence between being valuble and being 1 Cent

When I was little I had many of those pennies. My grandmother gave me pennies that had an Indian on them. She also gave me Indian head nickles. Did I save them? Of course not. I used them in gum machines.

              Hind sight is 20/20.... LOL

IF we had any clue as to what we as kids were throwing away... I have my wifes dad's penny collection. Some of those pennies are worth a lot of money.

A couple of years ago, I got gas and a drink, and got back a worn 1917 penny!

I always check them before I throw the rest in the give/take bin...

Funny how several of us go the penny collecting bug as kids! 😁

I had a cousin that had a large plastic piggy bank that he only put quarters in. It was FULL of silver quarters when silver went up he traded them in and paid for two years of tuition to a state college.
