    Account Settings and DST

I think the admin needs to inform members that are in non-DST time zones that they need to be sure to turn off DST in their settings.

If those that live in non-DST areas leave it at the 'auto' setting, you will be shown the wrong timestamp as you browse the board/topics/posts.

In order to change this setting, click on your Avatar >> Select "Settings">> Select "Account" >> Scroll to time settings and choose your time zone.

The forum uses Genrich Mean Time as its base time.

You will also find many other settings in that area including your sig line.

With all due respect Billy_Bob, I am familiar with the UI of most platforms out in the Net World, but I was hoping to have something showing for newbies, as that auto glitch isn't something I'd seen before. That has to be classified as a glitch, as it makes no sense for an auto setting to change the actual timestamp in a zone that has no DST. And I reckon there would already be a thread on this over at the vBulletin support site, but I haven't been over there in ages, so . . . Well, I just suppose that's the case.

And might I suggest this thread be moved over to that new "Feedback" sub-forum?

In fact, I just looked here:

      https://www.patriotaction.us/help#ac...count_settings

And also clicked on other sections and I don't see any vBulletin notes about the DST thingy. Maybe I missed it. Was using a second tab and hurried.

So I went poking around this morning, JST (non-DST) and eventually got Professor Google and the AI assistant to provide me with a good summary:

vbulletin auto dst causes trouble for non-dst timezones
        AI Overview
vBulletin's auto-DST setting often causes time inaccuracies for users in non-DST regions by incorrectly 'changing' times by one hour. This occurs because the automatic detector assumes standard DST schedules. Affected users, particularly in regions that never observe DST, should manually set their time zone and disable the automatic DST setting.
I didn't go over to the vBulletin folks to ask why they can't fix the code, but if we learn a way to fix it and provide that information to them, you admin folks can get some favor from the vBulletin top dogs in return.

These sorts of glitches are always in the code and sometimes buried so deep even Sherlock Holmes has trouble finding that one character that might be laughing at all her/his partner characters in that same line of code.

A clever study of the "Page Source" result is where one starts, but in this case it would have to be about five different pages and the archiving of "Source" results and that takes a lot of time.

Actually, I figured the vBulletin folks knew about this.

Now, the question of the day: Note above the gender reference a couple lines up. Does code have gender?
