An Odd Happening in Kyoto area of Japan

So many news sites here are behind paywalls now and U.S. sites are so loaded with adverts that my browsers scream at me.

Anyway, this fella has been in/on the news here for a fair number of days (or longer) and they finally found him, but an odd bit is that "no foul play" thingy, which I assume includes no bear attack.

I'll admit, I haven't really had time to dig deep enough, but a cursory check on both Japanese and English-language sites don't seem to offer just what happened to this fella to cause his death. Seems a little odd, doesn't it? Walks off into the hills/mountains while on vacation with family and sort of gets dead. Didn't tell his family he was going out into the hills/mountains. (Actually, there aren't really true mountains surrounding Kyoto. Some big hills, yes. But real mountains; not really. Not close to Kyoto.)

Must be some media entity asking the same question, but I need help. If anyone sees more information, it would be appreciated if you'd share that info.

Who is he and what did he do for a job in the US? Got to ask some very basic questions as to why would someone make his death look like a suicide?

I don't know about any suicide issue related to this situation. I think there is some speculation about that on another discussion platform, but I don't believe the authorities have issued any official cause of death, except there was no foul play.

On the other hand, I've not done any proper checking of all possible sources to confirm anything. I was primarily interested in a possible bear attack. In that area around Kyoto I am sure bears could be a problem.

Yesterday, there was a bear spotted in a relatively heavy human traffic area in Utsunomiya, which is quite the surprise. It is beginning to dawn on me that both areas of our homes are possible trouble areas for this bear thing, but I have one very nastily loud whistle that could cause any bear to halt for at least a few seconds. Or more. Funny thing to think about, but I'd bet I could still outfight a bear, if I had to. Just hope I don't have to prove that. Well, on Honshu it is not that big black bear they have up in Hokkaido. The smaller brown bears that have a nose that makes for a great target. That would be the only way to deal with one of them.

Anyway, I don't know the details of that young man's death.

Yes, I had somebody in the office here a few hours ago who stated that it was known he and his mother had apparently had some sort of argument earlier on that day when he went off on his own.

By the way, Billy_Bob, he was a college student.

Back to the earlier point, I doubt one argument would cause an individual to consider suicide as an option to solve some sort of problem. I'm guessing there were other issues between mom and him. But please note that I'm guessing. I confess that researching that young man's history and such hasn't been high on my ToDo list.

In fact, as I wrote above, it only caught my attention because of our bear troubles as of late.

I'm sure glad those bears started their revolution after I got into being aged. Many years ago I was known to hike around those hills where we lived for so many years. Musasabi (flying squirrels) country. And (inoshishi) wild pigs. But those pigs were usually very clever at staying away from a noisy human trekking though the hills. Plus the pigs were pretty noisy themselves.
