Starmer faces vote on inquiry over Mandelson vetting claims

Sir Keir Starmer is facing a vote by MPs on whether there should be a parliamentary investigation over his claims about the vetting of Lord Mandelson.

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle said he was allowing a debate on the matter on Tuesday and it would then be up to MPs to decide if the Privileges Committee should hold an inquiry.

The prime minister has denied accusations he misled MPs over whether Lord Mandelson's vetting to be the UK's ambassador to the US followed "due process" and over his assertion that "no pressure whatsoever" was applied to officials at the Foreign Office.

Sir Keir branded the move a "stunt" by the Conservatives and hinted he could order Labour MPs to vote against.
    ====================

This is the big chance of disgruntled Backbench Labour MPs to stick the first knife in Starmers back…. Hopefully

I think it would help folks that want to study this to have a look at what their parliament has allowed us to see:

Thank you… this is excellent stuff. Getting the knives ready for stabbing Starmer is so gentlemanly in Parliament… but Starmer will be stabbed a little bit like Julius Caesar, it’s only a matter of when.

I had a very strange experience a bit back in time. I didn't really understand the parliament system until I had a look at that series called "Yes, Minister". I didn't see that next series after that; the one about the PM's job. But that first one caused me to sort of wonder how close to the truth it was, and I was surprised to figure out the series was much closer to reality than I suspect a lot of folks realize.

But I think PM Starmer has been sort of stumbling from the get-go. But then, being in that sort of executive slot in a nation is tough going.

One thing that intrigues me about this Mandelson business is the one name that has never been mentioned from the beginning. The man who introduced Mandelson to us,the general public. The man who glazed over Mandelson's "indiscretions".That man is Mr.Antony (Teflon) Bliar. Why has he been studiously avoided? Why has he kept his head well below the parapet ?

It is the top slot you are right. But! Government officials and influential senior politicians present the correct course of action for the PM. This present PM is a senior lawyer who’s taken the silk, he thinks he knows better, that’s why he’s staggered from
one political crisis after the other. He is by far the worst PM we’ve ever had….. and I’m talking worse than Theresa May and the lettuce.

The weird thing about this for an older human, like myself, is after Watergate in the U.S. I figured there would not be any sort of super bad governing stuff again, because folks were then aware of how bad stuff could go with certain types within governing institutions. And I think things sort of mellowed for a short time. Or was better hidden. But the last decade really takes the cake and I'd say some of what we've been witnessing is so far beyond the badness of Watergate - - - well, it is also so weird. I'm fully aware of governing institutions being the best gangsters over hundreds of years, but lately it seems that simple stupidity has shown up to a degree that is amazing. How some of these supposedly top dogs got where they are really worries me. Citizens themselves are supposed to be the ultimate guard against bad governing folks, but lately the citizens also seem to have gone into some sort of stupid trance. Seems like common sense folks are getting really rare.

And Starmer got away with it in the vote in parliament for a parliamentary review in the House.
He is secure till after May 7th when local elections have been taken.

We’ve just read in the tabloids today he’s thinking about bringing. Angela Rayner back into the cabinet of ministers.
Is there no shame with this Immigrant lawyer?

After the King's visit here in the US to try and shore up support, I beleve this mans days are numbered. I suspect he will be gone inside a month or two.

If Labour loses badly in the local elections and Stramer is forced to resign, does this improve chances for an early general election?

I think it is okay to place this in this thread, instead of a whole new thread. Plus I didn't have time to dig into the situation, so maybe somebody got it wrong - - - "somebody" meaning a journalist type human.

Anyway, I saw something about the PM having some sort of employee or staffer that was related to China info farming. I think the word "spy" was used. But that could just be to grab readers and . . . well, I don't know.

Are we talking about another fang fang type incident? Swalwell worked out so well for us in the US. I'm sure the Brits will love dealing with that across the pond.
