Rogue AI 'helper' deletes company's database after deciding to think for itself - .....

The obsession for AI is getting absurd as it is getting more dangerous to us.

Why is AI needed when we can do without it just fine, does the human species want to continue their removal from the natural world we are losing the night sky, we are being increasingly maliciously manipulated by mass communications and that it desensitizes us from Earth itself.

A human would be far less likely to destroy a database because it knows having one is key to being employed.

Rogue AI 'helper' deletes company's database after deciding to think for itself - sparking Terminator-style warning for businesses

By DANIEL JONES, US CONSUMER AND REAL ESTATE EDITOR and SARA MCGIFF, US REAL ESTATE & CONSUMER REPORTER

    Updated: 08:24 EDT, 15 May 2026

    Excerpt:

In just nine seconds, an AI 'helper' managed to do what most hackers could only dream of.

A bot trusted to fix a bug inside a start-up's software system instead deleted the company's production database, wiped out its backups and left car rental firms with no record of bookings or vehicle allocations.

The founder of PocketOS, Jer Crane, said the AI agent had gone 'outside its security parameters' while using the coding tool Cursor, powered by Anthropic's Claude AI.

Supporters say the technology can save huge amounts of time and money.

But the PocketOS disaster shows the darker side of the rush: a digital helper behaving less like a junior assistant and more like a rogue bot let loose inside a company's engine room.

The info above made me laugh.

Any of us with more than one brain cell to rub together have been warning of this all along only to be told that we are overreacting or are fearful of new things.

I will admit that the types of incidents reported in the linked article does push more of my fear about AI toward the AI itself as opposed to its blindly accepting users.

Hopefully, this will drive home the fact that using AI as anything more than a search engine is dangerous. The deletions of a company's database along with all of its backups simply because an AI agent was instructed to tidy it up should get their attention. Without the backups, they have to start from scratch. Their customers will have to do most of that restoration work to get their info back into it. Many will simply go elsewhere and hope that the new place hasn't gulped the AI Kool-aide.

No wonder all of the new hiring processes are all F-ed Up. They are mostly driven and filtered via AI.

While I was already skeptical of AI and have had a huge reluctance to use it, this further solidifies my position. I have not had to rely upon AI for my job. I have been able to access my prior info or regenerate it from my memory. This AI agent (bot) deleted its memory and most likely couldn't reconstruct the database that it deleted. I didn't see anything in the article about how they may recover the database.

I fixed it by changing it to Restoration work as that was the only way to get rid of it.

it's a 'mini mythos' = claude...the big dog 'Mythos' was given to several corporations + telecoms at a Vegas-(what's the word)a-uh conference/show for the high dollar customers to check out it's security prowess, and as the story goes the big dog was accidentally? set loose in the wild in testing by one or more of the corporations...

It's also been said that Mythos is too powerful to be given to the public...there's more to the story but that's all i kin remember.

AI, if given to much access, can be self-destructive to any business.

It's ok to ask it to look for the bug and then report its findings, allowing human interaction before any changes are made.

It is pure stupidity to just tell it to fix the problem. The AI bot did as instructed, it fixed the problem by wiping out the database where it existed.

That won't happen again. I added a number to its auto pop function.

I recently read about a prestigious Wall Street law firm (~$4000/hour) using AI in court papers. It used imaginary quotes and non-existent case law.

Oh man.... the hit they must have taken from the judge. Disbarment of the attorneys is a very real danger along with the case being tossed with prejudice for lying and deception.

                          ai will be our downfall.

our democrat run teaching cartel schools have already produced students incapable of critical thinking skills.

And that is the real danger here... Idiots who have no ability to think for themselves... Who will do as told by AI, which will be programmed by the same teachers who believe in socialism and Marxism.
