State Department Ends Scams That Sent Hundreds Of Pregnant Women To US To Exploit Birthplace Citizenship

The United States has shut down multiple birth tourism networks across Europe and Africa, the State Department announced Wednesday, stating, “No foreigner is permitted to obtain a visitor visa for the primary purpose of acquiring U.S. citizenship for a child by giving birth in the U.S.”

According to the State Department, the networks have been trying to ship hundreds of pregnant foreign nationals into the United States homeland so they can give birth there and gain citizenship for the child. Foreigners who do so can then use the child’s citizenship as an anchor to stay in the country.

I must admit that this paragraph from that page sort of seared my eyeballs:

But the issue is not simply the hundreds of fraudulent citizenship-seeking births each year. The Center for Immigration Studies says there were about 70,000 births to temporary visitors in 2023, and an estimated 500,000 in the past 10 years, making every single one eligible for citizenship.

That is near the end of the page, and . . . well, those numbers are way higher than I had known.

I mean, really!!! seventy thousand in one year!!! That explains the money rewards for those commercial operations to send those pregnant ladies to the U.S. and that's quite clever to go after those commercial operations at their headquarters in other countries.

But it also seems to beg the question of what the State Department employees were up to by granting those 70,000 visas in 2023? In fact, strangely enough, I'm not even sure I've ever worked out how that visa system works. I rarely had to deal with a visa for entry into a country, as it was on government duty. Or government took care of that for me once or twice way back.

I'm beginning to realize how ignorant I am on how all that works. I wonder if any State Department employees overseas raised alarms related to those 70,000 in 2023?

EDIT: Okay, I wasn't thinking straight, as I was too surprised. I would suppose a whole bunch of those 70,000 were actually here in a fully legal way. So even if we cut off half of that number; maybe cut off 50,000 - - - we could still be looking at a heck of a lot. I wonder who has a breakdown of that 70,000 number?

Our LEGAL immigration system truly is a slow moving and complicated beast. I have sponsored LEGAL immigrants and helped them obtain US Citizenship. They make the whole process a bureaucratic nightmare. They truly punish those that take the LEGAL path while showering the ILLEGALs with freebies. At least, it was that way before Trump was elected.
