Niall Ferguson & George Will Discussion

I really had a mind to place this in the 'Other than the U.S.' forum, but this discussion revolves a lot more about the U.S. (and Scotland) than about the rest of the nations on the planet. But if the admin duo thinks this belongs in that other forum, so be it.

Thing is, this is a very good way to learn from some very smart folks. At this early stage I think you can only listen to these two smart folks in that video on UTube, but I could be wrong.

I disagree with Mr. Ferguson's thought process about an AI program soon being able to outwrite some of us humans. For one thing, some of us humans know how to cheat with punctuation, as many of you here have already seen me do. Punctuation revolutionaries.

"I think" there are other points (political points) made by Mr. Ferguson that I disagree with.

As for that discussion the link takes you to, I think we can only see/hear it on UTube at this point in time.

    It is very enlightening.

So, back to one of Mr. Ferguson's opinions; does AI gain "education" or is it simply programmed? The answer might need to be placed in another sub-forum, or forum; not sure where.

But, overall, this discussion is about politics. Well, also a feather in the hat for you folks from Scotland. Any of y'all from Scotland?

By the way, I know the answer to the question about what the next threat to our liberty will be. But I don't think I can go into that on this site, because it would be too controversial. In fact, I only have tentative permission to put it on a shared server basis because of what I am advocating. I no longer have my own servers after that super hot summer last year burned up some equipment. Lost a lot of money.

Sometimes my brain doesn't obey me, as if it is the boss; and sometimes that means something gets stuck in my brain and I will wake up for that frequent night visit to my special earthquake safe room (The toilet is about the safest room, instead of running outside.) - - - anyway, last night I had that debate with my brain about if it was going to let me get more sleep and for a bit I lost that debate.

I'm not sure why the following caused me to pick up my Star Trek machine and type that out, but I did. I then sent it from that little machine to an email account so I could maybe share it with y'all after more sleep. And because there are way too many folks cheating and telling tall tales and can't be trusted with what they write on these sites, I just grabbed an image to show the timestamp when that got into that email account, which I'll show you below. That might also prove that I actually wrote that myself, if that comes up.

And don't worry Mod/Admin team, there's no personal information there that can hurt me.

So let me now quote myself:

Liberty can be compared to a free flowing creek or river. The water of such a surface land feature is the liberty, if it remains in a free flowing state. If it becomes "trapped" into a pipe, it is not "free" flowing, and no longer an example of liberty.

The free flowing is influenced by changes in source. Light rain, less liberty. Heavy rain, more; but too much is destructive, like a flood.

    Too much liberty is destructive.

The free flowing is influenced by changes in land surface. Huge boulder tumbles into the river and the flow changes and possibly forces a change in the river bank. But the liberty still can be free flowing.

Complete blocking of the free flowing water that creates a lake indicates liberty is no longer at that location and at that point in time. Maybe a temporary state.

No source of water and the river becomes no more, so no more liberty. The geographics for the liberty to flow may still be there and the liberty may flow again, but . . .
Okay, and I see that cute red line under one word and I'll leave that.

Strangely, I'm now looking at that for the first time since I got a bit more sleep not so long ago.

You see, I have this last project I need to complete before this cancer battle is over, with me very likely the defeated one, and certain definitions have to be in place before some folks can get a handle on what I see as the gravest danger to us human types since we picked up that first rock to use as a weapon against another human.

By the way, I view "liberty" and "freedom" as two very different fields of human existence. In fact, to put that more bluntly, NOBODY is free. There are constraints on all humans. The humans with the most freedom are the ones that have brain malfunctions and can't really get their brain to respond to instructions. I don't like that vocabulary a retarded person, but I think that used to be the normal vocabulary. Now I think folks have other fancy words. Anyway, those folks are the most free, but there are still constraints on them, so they are not completely free, either.

So liberty is the key. But "touching" liberty is mighty hard to do.

Now I think I have a deal with a host downtown that will put up with a rather odd position I will be explaining to humans, but I have to define "liberty" and "community" before I can introduce my other stuff.

I have been jotting down notes and putting all sorts of style notes all over the place as a prelude to the actual start of the main project, and that early morning note is another one, but it looks like it might not be so bad.

And I think it was triggered by that discussion between those two gentleman I placed before y'all up above.

Having cancer myself, I understand this point of view.

It is true. Man has limitations wherever he is. Some are imposed by rules to live in a free society, which we agree too. Some are imposed by those who want control. Some are self-imposed by our moral center and religious beliefs.

Liberty is something we must fight for and comes only with personal responsibility. Sadly, many refuse to take personal responsibility for themselves and demand to be told what to do. These people are called useful idiots as they will sell their liberty for temporary safety as the Benjamine Franklyn quote in my sigline indicates.

Your premise is interesting to me.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
